space is a place

the time has come for me to alert you all to an art show that i have coming up in beautiful san francisco, california, usa. it's with my friends at mollusk surf shop out in the sunset district. this is my third show there, the last was way back in 2008! i've been working hard the past couple months getting it all ready and i'm hoping you will come and check it out at your convenience. all the work in the show is about a loose and changing idea of space: cosmic and personal, infinite and inner. there's drawings, prints, and some sculpture things happening. the opening reception is on saturday, march 24th, from 7-10pm (4500 irving street, sf,ca) and our good buddy andy cabic, of vetiver, will be playing records to get the conversation flowing and the hips swaying. i'll be there, so please come by and say hi. i'm looking forward to seeing all my friends, old and new!

ps here's the official press release with more information, etc:

Mollusk Surf Shop is pleased to present Space is a Place, a solo exhibition by Nathaniel Russell.  This collection of recent works falls under the broad theme of SPACE: inner space, outer space, personal space, negative space, infinite space, and our place as humans within all the realms of space.  Russell’s work has continually explored notions of dream thoughts and our common subconscious connections.  This exhibition includes drawings, prints, various objects and sculptures.  This is Russell’s third solo exhibition at Mollusk.
Born and raised in Indiana, Russell studied printmaking at Ball State University in Muncie. After graduating with a BFA, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, making work and teaching letterpress at Kala Art Institute, working at a record store and a record label, and getting involved in art exhibits and events at various galleries, shops, and warehouses around Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco.  His work has become closely affiliated with the group of artists and designers associated with Mollusk, designing many of the shop’s graphics.
Russell’s work has exhibited in numerous solo, group and traveling exhibitions nationwide and internationally.  Russell’s drawings have been published as zines by small presses in Scotland, Canada and Germany. His illustrations and designs have been featured in the Listography series of books, Dwell Magazine, and album covers for record labels such as Sub Pop, Secretly Canadian, Asthmatic Kitty, Brushfire, and many others.
Space is a Place, March 24 through April 7, 2012.  Opening Reception, March 24, 7-10pm.  With Andy Cabic playing records.
