first edition

i made a small run of these FAILED MEMOIRS books.
this first edition is of 15 copies.

here's some details in list form:
-i sewed all the bindings by hand, no staples.
-16 color pages, a title sheet, and a hand-lettered cover
-each copy is numbered out of 15
-the booklet includes all the book covers in the previous posts plus a couple others i didn't post here.
-i think i'm gonna make another larger edition with different covers next week. those will be sold at a couple shops and a gallery.
-these first copies have the special bonus in the form of a small ink drawing i'm going to stick inside each one. it's gonna be a drawing of a face. it's a surprise.



this is the cover. the title is written in ink by me on each one.
the cover is made out of recycled/repurposed cut-up leftover 2009 calendars.

these books will be in a booklet and i will tell you all about it when it's time to do so. it's great to have and idea and be able to do it to death for a few days. and then be able to share it with the world. it's been a while since i mentioned how good and productive the blog-deal can make one feel. it's a good thing if you make it good for you. thanks blog!

i just read an interview with this lady. they are reprinting her book. i need it! go on youtube and watch the other 2 parts of this. also: people used to sound a lot better when they spoke. she sounds like she's in a bad news bears movie.

rip art clokey

Animator Art Clokey, whose bendable creation Gumby became a pop culture phenomenon, died Friday at his home in Los Osos. He was 88.

Despite Gumby's positive demeanor, his origins stem from tragedy. When [Art] Clokey was 9, his father was killed in a car crash. He lived with his mother for a while, but when her second husband made her choose between him and her son, Clokey was sent to an orphanage. Fortunately, he was adopted by a good family. But Clokey wouldn't forget his father, whose head shape - characterized by a cowlick hairdo - would later provide the inspiration for Gumby's trademark lopsided head.

no drawing

you'd think from this blog lately that i don't draw anymore. in fact, i'm just getting ready for a show, collecting drawings, finishing up new ones, all while watching a lot of tv as i do it. i just watch the good stuff. like reality dating shows, law & order, and weird stuff like "hoarders". basically anything on a&e. but i don't have cable so i watch it on the computer. or at my grandmother's house.
anyway, this photo is from about 12 years ago. it's my then-roommate who would put this mask on and jump out at me in the night. he had really long hair at the time and all the hippie guys playing hackie sack would invite him to parties while we were skating. it really upset him. i just found this in a box and it wants to be on the internet forever.
