roofcat

sometimes you gotta take things to the limit, man.
cat photo for this week: done.

more nug

just finished up making the art for a new EP by Vetiver. in a way, it's a hand-done adaptation of the LP art we worked on earlier this year. see, this EP is all cover songs, like the LP, and it's sort of an addendum to that work. but anyway, this is cd art. the art for the 45 is slightly different, but we'll see that soon enough. very stoked to be working with such good buds. when it gets all printed it's going to look fresh!

wander wonder

Mr. Floyd Burney, a gentleman songster in search of song, is about to answer the age-old question of whether a man can be in two places at the same time. As far as his folk song is concerned, we can assure Mr. Burney he'll find everything he's looking for, although the lyrics may not be all to his liking. But that's sometimes the case when the words and music are recorded in the Twilight Zone.

love notes

-one week left until deadline for your memorable foam submissions. think smurf, live garfield.
-i saw the arthur russell documentary last night. it is the week of good movies. so amazing that he left behind enough music for several lifetimes. i listened to "world of echo" when i went for coffee this morning. masterpiece.
-above tote bag is what you get when you go to london and go the art show i posted below. the slapper goblin.
-who wants to go big? now is the time for hope and disregard for any lasting legacy. go big and go now. big color and wide expanses. remember how we were going to open the gate in 2008? do it then.
-i am going to new york for a week soon. give me suggestions of what to do. besides rage.

it's important to have the proper work soundtrack. music to keep you focused while allowing moments of revelation. i can't get anything done to heaviness, i need some mellow atmospheres.

student participation

i really like this band Pocahaunted. seeing them play is like watching some primitive channeling of an ancient human experience. truly truly epic. earlier this year when they were in town playing at my buddies frank and dave's art show, another friend, jeff, invited them to come and play for his 3rd grade class (he's a teacher). sadly, i could not go because i had to work or was out of town or something equally stupid. but i went to his classroom today to help move some furniture and saw this moving display. maybe if you know about the music of pocahaunted you can appreciate how amazing it is that they played for this 3rd grade class in east oakland. i wish i was 8 and hearing this stuff. check it.

digging a hole

i live in a house with a backyard now. there is a hole where a tree stump used to be. it reminds me of these things:
-nobody digs holes anymore. it seems like in olden times somebody was always digging a ditch or a hole or something.
-when i approached my friend joe about starting a label to put out a 45 for me, i said, "hey, man. i have this big hole over here. do you want to throw $500 into it?"
-my cat is super into this dirt

not to keep going on about my art show, but mollusk has some really nice photos of the show and individual pieces in their online gallery. much nicer photos than i have. let us never mention it again.
