my mom's mother, my grandma gen, was an amazing quilt maker. after she passed on, my mom and her sisters found this unfinished quilt at the bottom of trunk. they don't know how old it is, but it's pretty amazing, right?
here's a closer look. i can't even begin to describe this. those blacks especially.
and closer still. i would never have the patience to make something like this. we're talking about thousands of stitches and pieces, put together by hand. i have memories of her and her buddies in the basement working on giant quilts together. most were auctioned off for benefits, but each of her grandchildren got one made especially for them. i am very grateful to have one in my life.
