this thing

my friend sent this to me the other day from the internet.
included was his comment "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"
i am happy that this makes people happy. i am happy that it is a real life meme, like someone printed it out and taped it to a wall. who takes the time to do that? i think that is cool. i wonder if it will appear on a t-shirt in a couple months at a kiosk in my local shopping mall, next to the "u mad bro?" and "YOLO" designs. that would be amazing. i am using this as an exercise in letting go. letting go of the ownership of something that i made and then sent into the world. i don't need to have every tumblr or pinterest post link back to my website. i don't need to be recognized for this ridiculous achievement of making something up that some other people thought was funny for five minutes. i mean, there is a part of me that does need those things, but that is the part i am trying to silence. because it doesn't really matter. it is harmless. and in fact it is better than harmless, it is good weird energy being put into the universe. this is actually incredible to think about. please please let this turn up on an episode of "three and a half men" and spoken by ashton kucher during a very special episode where he adopts a stray puppy.

i guess the only thing i am confused about is: why didn't you use the duck?

it is common knowledge that the best things come when you're doing something else or walking around checking things out and looking at people, animals, and buildings. i am going to invoice the earth.

how to customize your cruise

first you go look at the ocean, and the people who walk alone at sunset
then you cruise over to mason and serena's where they will outfit you with tools and fine appetizers. freehand some lines on that popsicle stick until you get something closer to your vibe.
 jig it
 grip it (discard all logos)
don't forget the sweet sticker job.
i went the trouble coffee/bolinas/animal chin route.
don't forget an inspirational paint job and some fat cruisey wheels for maximum funtimes. this is the first time i have made a little thing like this and i cannot recommend it enough. what have i been doing with myself?
(special thanks to t-mo for the sweet product flow)

But in a life I more nice!!!
I wait for the answer

all these captions are taken from a spam email i got from someone named Olga who loves me.

"but is it art?"

today is my birthday and i am thirty seven years old which sounds much older than it feels. every year on my birthday i listen to my favorite dave van ronk record and the last song is this song, "candyman".  i got to see this guy play on my birthday in 2001 and it was incredibly. i wish i could have seen him in the 80s because he seemed to be at the height of his kookiness, evident especially in the scat singing in this rendition. the record i love of his is from the 80s and it has all the same old songs he's sang for 30 years. anyway, enjoy this demonstration of majesty and substance and carry on with your day.

ny brownout

just some nice shots of some things from a show in new york last year.
i rarely get good photos of installed stuff but these are sweet and make me want to go back to new york and eat those good sandwiches.
what it says. trying to make a bunch of these sorts of things this year.
